Joins Honored Dead

Capt. Eli Balderston, a civil war veteran, passed away Saturday afternoon. He had been ailing for several years but was only bedfast about ten days.

He was born in Ohio, sixty-nine years ago, the 22nd of last March.

When the civil war broke out he joined the Union army as a volunteer and served during the whole four years that the war lasted. He started as a private but was promoted to captain. He was in numerous engagements and the big battle at Chickamauga.

Sometime after the war, he came to Utah where he married Celestia Buckland. Eight children were born to them, six of whom survive him.

Funeral services were held at Bliss hall, Tuesday, at 10:30 a.m. Rev. Pinkerton of Salt Lake City preached the funeral sermon. Members of the G.A.R. served as pall-bearers. The house was not nearly large enough to accommodate the large number that turned out.
