refered to as Jenette Dean in 1870 census
Diphtheria seems to be the prevailing epidemic in Belmont at this Present time (march 19 1878) , as several children are said to be afflicted with this terrible disease. it had taken away Nettie Dean daughter of John Dean who resides in this village. Nettie died on Thursday the 14th and was buried on Friday the 15th. she was a bright little girl, the delight of their household.
Her laughing voice made all rejoice
who caught the happy sound;
There was gladness in her very step,
As it lightly touched the ground.
The echoes of voice and step are gone,
There is silence still and deep;
Nettie, she sings by God's Bright Throne,
Then whyfore should we weep.
