Joseph Goode Hudlow was the son of Michael and Sarah "Sallie" Goode Hudlow of Yellow Creek District, Lumpkin County, now Dawson County, GA.

On June 25, 1846, Joseph Hudlow married Lydia Amanda Wood, daughter of Luke and Nancy Cornwell Wood, in Lumpkin County, Georgia (Lumpkin County Marriage Bk A. 1845-1847 listed as Headlow, Joseph and Miss Lydia Amanda Wood). They were married by Alfred Webb, M.G.

Joseph and Lydia had eight children:

4. Caroline Hudlow

J.G. Hudlow served in the CSA. He was a private in Captain L K Wade's Company, F, of the 28th Georgia Regiment of Confederate States Troops, was enlisted by Col. Worford, of the 18th Regiment of Georgia at Camp Lee, Richmond, VA on the 2nd of October 1861, to serve the war years.

On September 28, 1862, Hudlow was discharged from the army due to the development of a large double scrotal hernia which made him incapable of performing the duties of a soldier.

Hudlow was six foot one inches tall, with dark complexion, blue eyes and black hair. He was a farmer.
