Christena M Huffman was born on 12 Sep 1874 in Fulton County, Indiana to George Washington Huffman and Sarah Jane (Goltry) Huffman. She was the fifth of six children.

In May of 1876 the family moved to Sumner County, Kansas with several of her father’s siblings. There they met up with her widowed grandmother, Sarah (Barnes) Huffman, and two more uncles who had arrived a year earlier.

When Christena was 4, her mother died after giving birth to a son who did not survive. Her Grandmother Huffman moved into the home to help care for the children.

In March of 1882 her father married widow Catherine Jane (Vian) Stetler and they had two children together before getting divorced sometime after 1885.

In 1886 the family moved to Lane County, Kansas.

Christena married Charles H “Tiny” Newell about 1892 and they had a daughter, Charlotte whom they nicknamed “Lottie”. The couple was divorced in June of 1899. Christena and her daughter then moved to nearby Grigsby, Scott, Kansas where they lived with her brother, James Huffman.

Christena worked at the “Commercial Hotel” in Dighton, Lane, Kansas. She gave birth to a set of twin boys (father and names unknown) on 17 Jan 1901 in Scott City, Scott, Kansas. She moved into a home on her father’s property in Grigsby in Jun 1901 but soon after moved to Paris, Kingfisher, Oklahoma.

On 22 Sep 1901 she married William M. Reddick of Dover, Oklahoma. Mrs. Florence Reddick and her grandmother, Sarah Huffman, were witnesses. Her grandmother was living in Hennessey, Kingfisher, Oklahoma with Christena's uncle John.

Two weeks later, about 7 Oct 1901, one of the twin boys became ill and died. Christena too was ill and after two or three days, a doctor was called. The doctor administered some medicine which immediately stopped her heart. She died at five o’clock in the morning on 9 Oct 1901 at the age of 27. Her daughter, Charlotte, was 8 at the time. Since her obituary does not mention the other twin, he must have died previously, either in Kansas or Oklahoma.

Obituary
"Mrs. Wm. Reddick died Wednesday morning at 5 o’clock after a brief illness of two or three days. Her little child died the first of the week. Mr. and Mrs. Reddick have only been married about three weeks. The funeral was held today at 10 o’clock at the Evangelical church. Mr. Reddick has the sympathy of the entire community. – The Dover News, Okla, October 11, 1901.

Mrs. Reddick was the youngest daughter [sic Edith is younger] of Geo Huffman of this county, and we learn from him that her death was caused by the administration, by the doctor, of medicine which so affected her heart that she died immediately. The deceased was 27 years old the 12th of last September. She leaves a little girl about 8 years old."
