Early Settler Died at Grigston

James W. Huffman Had lived here since 1896

James W. Huffman of Grigston died at his home Tuesday of this week at the age of 74 years. The day of his death happened to be Mr Huffman's birthday. He had been in ill health for some time. Funeral services were held Wednesday, conducted by Rev. J H Force of Scott City and burial was in the Grigston Cemetery, near which he lived for many years.

Mr. Huffman was born in Indiana February 9, 1863. He moved with his parents to Miami county, Kansas in 1872, and to Sumner county in 1875. He came to Scott county in 1888, and homesteaded a quarter of land southeast of Grigston, where he lived until his health began to weaken, and he moved into Grigston. He operated a threshing machine in that part of the county for many years.

The deceased never married. He leaves a brother, Milo Huffman, who with his family, lives in Grigston, and two sisters, Mrs. Anna Lahr of Woodward, Okla., and Mrs. Edith Schreiber of Larned.
