Richard Percival Bigelow, MD died peacefully at his home in Salt Lake City on Friday, October 30, 2015. He was eighty-six years old.

Richard was born the youngest child to Margaret (Meldrum) and Percival Bigelow in Provo on March 10, 1929. He was the size of a quart jar.

He attended BYU and the University of Utah for his undergraduate education and obtained his medical degree from Cornell University. Upon graduation, he served as a captain in the U.S. Army. Thereafter, he distinguished himself in his profession as an internal medicine physician, devoting himself to the care and treatment of his patients.

Richard married his beloved wife, Suzzanne Fiske, on June 12, 1953. They celebrated fifty-four years together, rearing their seven children and sharing a deep affinity of values, cultural appreciation, and friendships.

Throughout his life, he cultivated his fine musical sensibility as a pianist, organist, and musical enthusiast, supporting the Utah Symphony and many other local musical organizations.

He developed his talents as an artist later in life, creating many masterpieces in the style of Jackson Pollock that are treasured by his children and grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Percival and Margaret Bigelow; his siblings Joseph, Lavell, Afton, and Ruth; and his wife, Suzzanne Fiske Bigelow. He is survived by his son, Sean (Allison), of Cleveland, Ohio; his son, Barclay (Kris), of Sandy; his daughter, Brooke (Jim), of Salt Lake City; his son, Ian (Sonoe), of Salt Lake City; his daughter, Paige, of Salt Lake City; his son, Christian (Sandra), of Glendale, Arizona; his daughter, Eyre Wolfe (Jon), of San Luis Obispo, California; and his fourteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday November 4, 2015 at the Orangerie at Red Butte Garden, 300 Wakara Way, where friends and family may visit prior from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
