Church service for Guy Austin, age 83, of Farwell, is scheduled for 2 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 31, 2006 at the First Baptist Church in Farwell with Bro. Kyle Clayton officiating. Burial will be in the Muleshoe Memorial Park Cemetery.
Guy died Aug. 28, 2006 in the Muleshoe Area Medical Center. He was born March 1, 1923 in Haskell County. He married Myra Naomi Smith in San Diego, CA on June 11, 1943. She preceded him in death on May 24, 1998. Also preceding him were two sisters, Viola Walker and Serena, Johnston; and six brothers, C.P. Austin, Alvie Austin, Cecil Austin, George Austin and Russell Austin.
Guy had lived in the Farwell community since 1946, moving from Lubbock. Mr. Austin's life revolved around his church, family and work. He taught Sunday school for over 50 years and led singing at the West Camp Baptist Church for many years. He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the Army. Guy was a farmer and a member of the First Baptist Church in Farwell.
Survivors include a son, Stan Austin and wife Karen of Farwell; daughter, Mikala Harbert and her husband, Tommy of Dumas; three sisters, Margaret Watts of Phoenix, AZ, Meretta Houlette of El Paso and Emma Powell of Houston; four brothers, W.A. and Donis Austin, both of Houston, Partin Austin of Shawnee, OK and Donal Austin of Lubbock; five grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.
