Bob graduated from Earlham High School in 1950. Bob worked the wheat harvest from Kansas to New Mexico. One summer he met and worked for Bernard and Wilma Nichols and their family of Alton, Kansas. Their friendships grew and he worked for them for several years. He felt they were his second family and a home away from home. Bob and Ralph Stanley Jr. enlisted and fought in the Korean War. After his discharge, Bob worked again in Kansas for the Nichols family.
On November 26, 1955 Bob married Loretta Ann Hood of Newton, Iowa. After several moves they bought a farm just outside of Stuart, where they lived for the last 31 years. To this union, two children were born: Christopher and Kimberly.
Bob worked for the bean plant in Redfield, Iowa; Maytag Plant in Newton, Iowa, and farmed by the month for men. Bob was a self employed farmer where he raised feeder pigs. Bob always had horses around and enjoyed working with them. There weren't very many times when you saw him that he didn't have his boots and cowboy hat on, that was just Bob.
The last few years he struggled with emphysema and didn't get out much, so he reminisced a lot, talking about "The Good old Days!"
Bob is survived by his wife Loretta Barnett of Stuart, Iowa; and children Christopher Barnett of Des Moines, Iowa; and Kimberly Shaw of Stuart, Iowa and his only grandchild, John Shaw of Stuart, Iowa.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents Willard and Mabel Barnett, and brothers Marvin and Harold Barnett.
