Freeman Sawyer, 70, died Wednesday morning, March 27, 1968, at the Champlain Valley Unit of the Medical Center, in Plattsburgh, New York, of an apparent heart attack.

He was born October 13, 1897, the son of John and Mary (Tebo) Sawyer.

Mr. Sawyer was a maintenance man for the water department of the town of Black Brook, New York.

He was survived by his wife, the former Winifred E. Hamner, six sons, Chester, a member of the Air Force in Hawaii; Lester, a missionary in Bolivia; Ernest of Milord, Massachusetts; Milton of Sunnymead, California; John, a member of the army in Vietnam, and Sherman of Au Sable Forks, New York. Also by two daughters, Mrs. Shirley Thomas of Au Sable Forks and Mrs. Cathy Jaffee of Newburgh, New York; 6 grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. Marie Kyea of Au Sable Forks; Mrs. May Bleau of Keeselle; Mrs. Lila Rhino and Mrs. Mildred Snow, both of Au Sable Forks, and one brother, Raymond Sawyer of Au Sable Forks; two aunts, Mrs. Laura Akey of Au Sable Forks and Mrs. Lila Dewey of California.

Funeral services were held from Holy Name Church in Au Sable Forks. Rev. Father Philip Allen celebrated the mass of requiem. Interment was in the Holy Name cemetery.

Bearers were Cassius Phillips, Wallace Kyea, Roger Kyea, Robert Kyea, Patrick Rhino, Jr. and William Rhino.
