When the Civil War broke out he enlisted in Company C. 24th Regiment Illinois Infantry; served four years, taking part in the battles of Chickamauga, Lookout Mt., Buzzards Roost, Mission Ridge, Orchard Knob and many others.
After the war he returned to Racine, where he has since resided. He was one of the early settlers here and has seen the city grow from a small village to its present size.
He was a lumber tallier by trade.
Deceased is survived by a widow, two sons, Frank J., and John A., and one daughter, Miss Emma.
The funeral will take place Saturday morning at 8:30 from the home of Frank J. Kammerer, 928 Wilson St., and at 9 o'clock from St. Mary's Church, corner of College Avenue and Eighth Street. Interment will be in the Catholic Cemetery.
