MS: WW II, German prisoner of war – Ralph E. Plantenberg, 61, died Wednesday, Feb. 29, 1984, in Crown Point, Ind. The funeral service will be at 11 am Saturday from St. Columbkille Catholic Church, in the Town of Elba, with the Rev. Joseph Mueller officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Mr. Plantenberg was born on March 28, 1922, in Crofton, Neb., the son of John T. and Mathilda (Hegge) Plantenberg. He was married to Anna Mae Miller on July 24, 1945, in beaver Dam. He came to the Columbus area from Nebraska in 1936. He was the former owner of Vet's Auto Body Shop in Columbus for 20 years and the former owner of the Town Tap for 18 years. He was a veteran of World War II and a German prisoner of war. He was a member of St. Columbkille Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, and the Columbus VFW Post 8090. Survivors include his wife, his mother, Mathilda Plantenberg, Columbus; four daughters, Sue (Frank) Koboski, Pewaukee; Lorraine (Dennis) Colloti, Fall River; Mary (Robert) Metzger and Amy Plantenberg, Columbus; two brothers, Harold (Maureta), Beloit, Cletus (Noreen) Wonewoc, Wis.; 10 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, one daughter, Angela, and an infant brother. Friends may call from 6 to 9 pm at the Jones Funeral Home. There will be a combined church and Knights of Columbus rosary at 7:15 pm in the funeral home.
