Daniel R. Christiansen is best remembered for his big, generous heart; his kind, gentle nature; and his beautiful sense of humor that gave him the ability to generate joy, laughter, and smiles with most everyone he encountered.

He was born in Douglas, Ariz., on Dec. 4, 1937, as the 7th of 8 children to Harry W. Christiansen and Pearl J. Christiansen.

He passed away on Nov. 5, 2015, in Redding, Calif.

He is survived by a sister, Ruth Miyamoto of Payson, Ariz.; two children, Christine M. Mai of Redding, Calif., and Joanna D. Johnson of Tucson, Ariz.; three grandchildren, Kyle J. Johnson, Keenan D. Mai, and Karly D. Mai; one great-grandson, Aleksandr Daniel Johnson; his first wife, Marie T. Christiansen of Tucson; and his second wife, Barbara DiCataldo of Sierra Vista, Ariz.

He graduated from Tombstone (Ariz.) High School in 1956, representing his school as the student body president and being voted most likely to succeed. He opened the first Chevron gas station in Tombstone while in high school.

He served two terms with the Army National Guard at Fort Huachuca, Ariz., and went on to work in the mines in Bisbee and Douglas. He operated the HC Ranch in Gleeson most of his adult life, and he also later farmed corn and green chilies in Elfrida, Ariz., and served as a bilingual Cochise County constable.

He loved people, especially children; all animals; watching desert rainfall; prospecting for gold and other precious minerals; playing poker; cooking; dancing; making his own roads; and driving heavy equipment.

He prayed to God aloud most every day. All of his prayers ended with the words ”Bless, heal, forgive, and teach everyone and everything everywhere,” and he always told his loved ones, “I love you past the sky.”

His loving presence will forever be missed. We will always love you “past the sky.”

Services will be held on Saturday, Dec. 19, 1:00 p.m. at Gleeson Cemetery in Gleeson, Ariz.
