Mary married Henry Eilts on Sept 8, 1865 in Wood Co, Ohio. They were the parents of 10 children: Mary, Hannah, Minnie, John, Bertha Marie, Elizabeth, Henry, Matilda, Albert, and a child that died in infancy.

Carroll Times - May 30, 1918 - Mrs. Henry Eilts, nee Gretka M. Johnson, was born in Germany, November 28, 1839, and died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Mary Bester, in this city Tuesday, May 11, 1918, at the age of 78 years, 5 months and 15 days.

The funeral services were held in the Methodist church Thursday afternoon and were conducted by Rev. R. Burton Sheppard. Mrs. Eilts moved to this country with her parents when a young girl and spent her early womanhood in Perrysburg, Ohio. She was united in marriage to Henry I Eilts in 1865. After their marriage they moved to Jones county, Iowa and later to Carroll county, where they continued to live until Mr Eilts death in 1896.

Of the ten children born to this union nine are still living: Mrs Mary Bester of Carroll; Mrs Hannah Dickson of Glidden; Mrs Minnie Holscher of Brewster, MN; John W Eilts of Lidderdale; Mrs Bertha Janssen of Omaha, NE; Mrs Will Borcherding of Omaha, NE; Henry Eilts of Carroll; Mrs Walter Rawstern of Woolsey, SD; Albert Eilts of Rapid City, SD.

Mrs Eilts was a life long member of the church and was faithful in her church attendance when she was able. For several years she has been making her home with her son, John W Lidderdale and came to Carroll for a visit with her daughter a few days before she was stricken with paralysis.
