Carrol Daily Times Herald - Friday , June 22nd, 1956 - Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Katherine Bester, 90, of Storm Lake, formerly of Carroll, were conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 19, at the First Baptist Church in Storm Lake. The Rev. Arthur C. Marston officiated. Burial was in Westlawn Cemetery, Glidden.
Mrs. Bester, widow of John F. Bester, died at her home in Storm Lake Saturday, June 16. A daughter of Henry and Mary Eilts, she was born on a farm near Toledo, Ohio, Sept. 14, 1865. When she was a young girl, the family moved to a farm near Lidderdale, Carroll County. She attended the Lutheran parochial school at Lidderdale.
On Oct. 12, 1885, she married John Frederick Bester of Beaver Dam, Wis., at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Churdan. They were the parents of nine children.
Three sons and two daughters preceded their mother in death.
Following their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Bester lived in Omaha, where Mr. Bester followed his trade as a mason and building contractor. Two years later, they located in Carroll, where they lived for the next 50 years. After her husband's death June 1, 1935, Mrs. Bester went to Storm Lake to live with her daughter, Mrs. Mabel C. Steig.
Surviving are a son, Henry F. Bester, Pasadena, Calif.; three daughters: Mrs. Steig, Storm Lake; Mrs. Ida V. Scoonover, Omaha, and Mrs. Hazel J. Glist, Los Angeles. Calif.; seven grandchildren; 15-great-grandchildren; one brother, John Eilts. Fresno, Calif., and sister, Mrs Walter Rawstern, Woolsey, SD.
