Max and Ruth had seven children: Cathy Lynn (Steve) Allred; Keri Lee Stankevitz; Rodney Max and family; Neils Peter (Elizabeth); Lizette (Jeris) Baker; John Phillip (MarKay); Charles Andrew "Andy" and family and Max's very large posterity – 57 grandchildren, 95 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren.

In 1976 Max married Lynne Potter and became a father and friend to her children: Debbie, Judy, Julie and Mark. Max and Lynne parted in 2013.
