Funeral services for Clarence Henry Carroll, Sr., 89, of Bowling Green, were held at 2 p.m., Saturday at Collier Funeral Home in Louisiana with the Rev. Don Amelung officiating. Burial was at Bowling Green City Cemetery. Visitation was held from noon until time of services at the funeral home.

Mr. Carroll died Thursday, Oct. 28, 2010 at his home in Bowling Green.

He was born June 16, 1921 in Clarksville to Wendell and Emma Burge Carroll. He married Alpha Mae Jennings on Oct. 14, 1948 in Peoria, Ill. She preceded him in death on July 3, 1996.

He is survived by one daughter, Joyce Spegal and husband, Noahie; a son, Raymond Carroll and wife, Becky; one daughter in-law, Gayle Carroll; 12 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; a special friend, Margaret Ingle and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two daughters, Mary Kay Ince and Juanita Mae Carroll, a son, Clarence Sonny Carroll, an infant daughter, Beulah Jean Carroll, three brothers Raymond Carroll, Jim Carroll, Sam Carroll, and two sisters, Ruth Ulery and Mary Carroll.

Mr. Carroll was a veteran serving with the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII. He was a member of the VFW #5553 in Bowling Green and a member of the Immanuel Baptist Church in Bowling Green. He worked at the Harbison-Walker Refractories in Vandalia, retiring in 1983. He was known as a good story teller and liked playing cards. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren playing ball. He loved his family very much and he will be missed.

Honorary pallbearers were Joey Carroll, Dillon Carroll, Aiden Coffman, Colton Johnson, Lance Johnson, Craig Carroll, and Corey Carroll. Pallbearers were Rick Spegal, Wes Patton, Phillip Kottwitz, Ivan Lee Johnson, Cody Spegal and Zach Patton.

Memorials can be given to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, c/o Collier Funeral Homes, Inc., 117 Barnard Drive, Louisiana, MO 63353.
