Mary Ann "Cookie" Douglas, 84, of Marquette, died Saturday afternoon, July 5, 2014 at the Norlite Nursing Center under the care of Lake Superior Hospice.

Mary Ann was born on January 8, 1930 in Marquette, one of 12 children born to the late Joseph and Melina (Morin) Marier. She was a 1947 graduate of Graveraet High School.

Mary Ann was employed for many years at the Bon Ton Restaurant, Woolworth's, Doc's Corner, the Town Center Store, and Paul's Jewelry. In her free time she enjoyed making crafts, working crossword puzzles and playing pinnacle. Mary Ann was a member of the Marquette Senior Center where she was involved in their cribbage league. She was also a member of St. Peter Cathedral.

Cookie was always the first to acknowledge someone and extend a hand of friendship to make them feel welcome as a part of the group.

Mary Ann is survived by three children, James (Susan) Douglas of Ishpeming, Janet (Roger) VanAbel of Marquette and Laurianne Bell of Charlotte, NC; 10 grandchildren, Matthew (Heather) Douglas, Michelle (Jamie) Zellar, Jamie (Mike) Trelor, Joanne Uren, Suzanne (Ray) Hintsala, Jeremy Douglas, Angela (Robert) Osborn, Andrew VanAbel, Tyler Bell, and Melina Bell; also 14 great grandchildren, 3 great, great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Preceding her in death besides her parents were 11 siblings and a son-in-law, Victor Bell.

Visitation will be on Wednesday in the Bishop's Room of St. Peter Cathedral from 4:30 to 6 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in the cathedral at 6:15 p.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Msgr. Michael Steber officiating. A dessert social will be held in the cathedral hall immediately following the Mass. Burial will take place in the Holy Cross Cemetery on Thursday at 10 a.m. Mary Ann's grandchildren will act as her escorts.
