She was born on Wednesday, September 20, 1922, in Yancey County, daughter of the late Jesse and Ada Bennett Autrey. Beth was a lifelong member of Southern Baptist Church, in Ruth. She retired from Aeroquip Corporation, and was a volunteer at Yoke Fellows.
Above all, her family was most important to her. She was a very proud mother and grandmother. She was an avid hand quilter and baker. She enjoyed many crafts. She loved watching people and rocking in her rocking chair.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Charles Scoggins, and nine siblings.
Beth leaves to carry on her legacy her children, Carolyn Copeland of Rutherfordton, and son-in-law, Winston of Washington, D.C., Doug Scoggins and Gail of Blowing Rock, Keith Scoggins and Cindy of Easley, South Carolina, and Alan Scoggins and Lisa of Taylorsville; grandchildren, Amy Copeland, Courtney Walker, Whitney Hogan and Tony, Kelly Chapman, Matt Scoggins and Nicole, and Andrea Chapman; great-grandchildren, Ashton, Delaney, Avery, Kendall, Cale, Cayden, Ansley, and Jaxon; and a host of nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 10, 2015, at Southern Baptist Church Cemetery, 140 Church St., Rutherfordton. Rev. John Perry will be officiating the service. The family will receive friends at the family home, 233 Collett St., Rutherfordton, NC 28139.
The family requests that memorials be made to: Alexander County Hospice, 50 Lucy Echerd Ln, Taylorsville, NC 28681.
