Kathleen Straub, 82 of Monticello died peacefully at her home on April 20.2003 following an extended illness. Services held April 22, 2003. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery.
She is survived by a daughter, Jeri (Louis) Soppe of Monticello, a son Franke (Vicki) Straub of Topeka, KS, 2 stepchildren, Shubael Straub and Diane Motsinger, both of Anderson, IN, six grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Frank. Kathleen Carlsen was born 22 Nov 1920 in Monticello, IA, the daughter of Henry Carlsen and Lena Kasper Carlsen. Kathleen graduated as the Salutatorian of the Class of 940 from Monticello Community Schools.
She and Loyal K. Hoag were married 19 July 1941 in Kahoka, MO. They divorced 3 Oct 1944. Kathleen Carlsen Hoag and Frank Straub married 22 Feb 1945 in Galena, IL. They operated the Strub Nursing Home for 10 years from 1950 to 1960. Katie then worked as a receptionist at John McDonald Hospital and Dr. Caraway. Frank preceded her in death on Oct 7, 1993. Katie was the church organist at the First Presbyterian Church for 35 years.
