Pioneer Resident of Central Illinois
Died Last Night at Son's Home Here.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
WAS BORN IN PENNSYLVANIA
Israel Frank, for many years a resident of Central Illinois since before the civil war, died last night at the home of his son, Charles M. Frank, 109 East Locust street, at the age of 89 years. His death followed a long illness of the debilities of old age.
Mr. Frank was born in Dauphin county, Penn., and came to Illinois with his parents before the civil war. They settled near Waynesville on the farm known as the old Bushnell place. In 1861 he enlisted in the Union army and served for five years as private and sergeant in Companies B and D of the Second Regiment, Illinois Cavalry. At the end of three years he was discharged, but he immediately reenlisted.
During his service in the army he saw heavy fighting all along the line of service in the south. He took part in the battle of Shiloh and was also at Gettysburg.
In 1868 he was married to Harriet M. McCormick at Emporia, Kan. She died in 1874. Two children survive this union: William Frank, of Decatur, and Charles M. Frank, at whose home he died.
Forty years ago Mr. Frank was again married to Helen Dunham at Waynesville. Most of their married life was spent in Minier and Bloomington, where Mr. Frank worked at his trade as a contractor and brick mason. They moved to Bloomington twenty-five years ago. One daughter, Mrs. C. B. Dunlap, of Colorado Springs, Colo., survives Mr. Frank to this union. A step daughter, Mrs. R. C. Crihfield, lives at Minier.
Mr. Frank was a member of the G.A.R. and of the Methodist church of Minier. For ten years he made his home intermittently at the Old Soldiers' Home at Quincy, and with his two sons. Two years ago he was brought to the home of his son, Charles Frank, in Bloomington, and has since made his home there.
