Anne Gower (Gover/Gouwer) married John Endecott in 28 Aug 1688 at Saint Katherine By The Tower, London, England. She was 20 years old when she married John Endecott (born 1657 in Salem, Massachusetts and died in London). Their only child together was a daughter named Anne Endecott who was christened at St. Olave on Hart Street in London on 13 Oct 1689. Anne died in childbirth or shortly thereafter.

Anne Gower never married Gov. John Endecott. A historian made a mistake and assumed it was Gov. John who married Anne Gower. It was actually Gov. John's grandson named John Endecott who was a doctor in London. Gov. John Endecott died in 1665 in Boston. Anne's marriage took place 1688 in London making it impossible for Gov. John Endecott to marry Anne Gower.

The street boasts the city's oldest cemetery. In 1637 the town voted to set aside a point of land overlooking the South River as a burial ground. The site was probably already being used for that purpose. Historian Sidney Perley suggested that many of the settlers who succumbed in the great sicknesses of 1628 and 1629, including the wife of Gov. John Endicott, had been buried there. ref: The Great Migration Begins: Immigrants to New England by Robert Charles Anderson 1995.
