Puff, named after Marshmallow Puff, she was just as sweet. At just three months old when I got her she was a little puff of feathers and a big bundle of enthusiasm.

After the devastating lose of my first Cockatoo I knew I wanted another. My decision was to buy a Citron Crested rather than another Sulfur Crested. I did not need to worry about making comparisons...they were very different.

She was the talker I hoped she would be. She resided in my office and she soon was carrying on an entire one-sided telephone conversation by listening to me when I was talking with vendors. She would bark and get the dogs to join in and once they were at full volume she would yell, "Quiet". When people approached her cage she would say, "Hello there turkey" She had a very contagious laugh.

I know that she readily responded to the love we gave her but her true love was the Blue Front Amazon who resided in a cage next to hers. They formed a bond that I didn't know possible in two different avian breeds. The bond was so great that we decided to house them together. My husband built a very elaborate outdoor aviary that could be assessed from a sliding window in our dining room. Complete with fresh water, automatic feeders, lots of room to climb on their abundant supply of perches and dangling toys.

Living in California, the temperature is usually temperate however when the next winter was approaching I worried about them and considered bringing them back indoors but that meant separating them again. So we turned a plastic dog feeder with a swinging opening into a shelter with a thermostatically controlled heater.

Everything was perfect...Puff acted as if she were Pepper's mother, even going so far as to regurgitate food into his mouth. Sadly that behavior is what killed them both. Puff was biting pieces of plastic from the "shelter" and then in turn "feeding" them to Pepper.

Pepper died January 23, 2003 followed by Puff on February 7th. Of course I blamed myself and still do.
