Charles Acton, 66, Dies in Hospital; Funeral Is Today
Charles Acton, 66, a resident of Nodaway and vicinity for many years, died Monday about 7:30 p.m. of injuries received Monday morning when two heavy logs rolled onto him in an accident at his home. Funeral services are to be held this Thursday at 2 p.m. from the Nodaway Presbyterian Church.
Mr. Acton was hauling a load of logs into his barn yard about 9 a.m. Monday, sitting on top of the load. The wagon upset and two logs, 20 inches in dimeter, fell on him. The logs and the frame to which they were chained rolled off the top of the wagon and struck Mr. Acton a crushing blow.
He was brought to Villisca in Eno & Sutphen’s ambulance and at Dr. J. Clark Cooper’s office examination revealed a broken hip and a badly crushed pelvis.
Later the ambulance took Mr. Acton to the Greater Community Hospital in Creston, where he died Monday evening.
The Rev. F. A. Helzer of Nodaway will have charge of the funeral services and burial will be made in the Arlington Cemetery northwest of Villisca. Pall bearers are Charles Wood, Charles Watts, William Kennedy, Frank Conway, Ratio Strain, and W. H. Taylor.
Mr. Action is survived by his wife and seven children, Clint, Charles, Roy, Ray, and Cora, all of Nodaway; Ralph Acton of Villisca, Mrs. Lawrence Lehman of Guss.
The body was brought to Eno & Sutphen’s funeral chapel here prior to services.
