CUBA - William E. "Bill" Baughman, 80, of Cuba, passed away at 12:27 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30, 2015, at his home.

He was born April 14, 1935, in Smithfield, the son of Luther and Dorothy (Preece) Baughman. He married Evelyn Murphy on August 28, 1954, in Smithfield.

Survivors include one son, Jerry (Teresa) Baughman of Cuba; two grandsons, Jeremy Baughman of Canton and Ryan Baughman of Edwardsville; one sister, Florence Brown of Warren, Ind.; a special friend, Merry Chambers; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Allen and Bob; and three sisters, Bernadine, Hazel and Pat.

Bill worked at Butler Manufacturing in Galesburg and retired from International Harvester in 1990 after 20 years of service.

Most recently he worked as a custodian at the Cuba Elementary School, retiring in 2011. He served several terms as a Cuba alderman and had also served as mayor and chief of police. He was an avid Green Bay Packers and Atlanta Braves fan.

He enjoyed yard sales and flea markets, and was well known for growing tomatoes which he delivered to friends and family in the community. Also, he was an avid joke teller and was known to "stretch the truth" from time to time.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Cuba, with Pastor Mike Arnett officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the memorial home. Burial will be in Baughman Cemetery in rural Smithfield.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude or the Putman Township Park District Summer Baseball Program.
