Brief Illness is Fatal to P.R.R. Veteran
James Andrew Doyle, 86, of 1542 Eighteenth Street. Well-known retired foreman of the Altoona Works Boiler Shop, died unexpectedly at 4:30 O'clock yesterday afternoon at his home. He retired from the railroad company service on Sept. 1, 1931, after more than a half-century of employment.
He was born in Cambria Co. March 24, 1867 a son of Michael and Mary Ellen (Fluke) Doyle and was united in marriage with Miss Emma Caroline McConnell of the city on Nov. 11, 1891. Mr. Doyle was a member of the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament and Holy Name Society.
Surviving are his wife, nine children, Charles, Mrs. Eva McGinley, Mrs. Caroline Cooney, Mrs. Edith Liebal, Mrs. Elsie Heffner, and Mrs. Anna Orr, all of Altoona, Mrs. Edna McKenzie of Detroit, Mich., Sister Mary David of the Sisters of Charity Wilkinsburg, and Leo of Collingswood, N.J., 42 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, one sister and one brother, Mrs. Margaret Luther of Altoona, and Frank of Johnstown. Five children preceeded him in death.
Friends will be received at Jones Funeral Home after 7 o'clock this evening.
Interment in St. John's Cemetery.
