Two families, the Whitlatch and the Mann family were located near each other in Greene County, Pennsylvania. Both families later moved to Ohio, and then for unknown reasons relocated to Linn County, Iowa.

Anna Rebecca "Becca" Whitlatch was born in late 1831, and unfortunately nothing is known of her childhood. Her name is commonly remembered as "Rebecca Whitlatch" in various family histories, and the fact that her first name is listed as "Anna" on the record of her death is the reason it took so long to find the location where she is at rest.

In 1845, Anna Rebecca Whitlatch met a man named David Fussell. He was from Ohio and was only temporarily working in Linn County. He was almost ten years older than her and they soon had a short lived romantic relationship. David Fussell later returned to Ohio where in March 1846, he married a girl named Rachel Jennings. It is believed that he never knew he would soon be a father with the girl he left behind in Iowa. In 1849, David Fussell returned to Iowa to reside in Fayette County with his new wife.

Their daughter, Sarah Jane Fussell was born on February 14, 1846 in Linn County, Iowa. In the 1850 Census of Linn County, Sarah Jane Fussell is listed as the four year old "Jane Whitlatch" residing with her mother in the house of her grandfather John W. Whitlatch. Unfortunately, it is not known if the daughter, Sarah Jane Fussell had any later relationship with her father or step-father since she is not found in the 1860 Census.

On September 15, 1857, Anna Rebecca Whitlatch married Peter Mann in Jones County, Iowa and they are known to have had at least five children. Peter Mann was slightly younger than her having been born in Ohio in May 1836. They lived for a short while in Greenfield Township, Jones County, and then moved to Linn Township, Linn County, Iowa. Prior to 1885, the couple moved to Bridgewater, Rice County, Minnesota and before 1895 they moved to Mankato, Blue Earth County, Minnesota.

And it is here that Anna Rebecca (Whitlatch) Mann was laid to rest.
