Thomas Granville McElroy, 77, beloved and devoted Christian and father, died Saturday, May 13, 2000, after a brief illness.
Born in Waxahachie, TX on November 17, 1922, Mr. McElroy graduated from Waxahachie High School. For three and one half years, he attended the University of Texas at Austin, Mercer University and Notre Dame while serving in the Navy during World War II. After his military service, he graduated from Southern Methodist University. He worked for Sears for 20 years and in private business in Abilene at Westgate Firestone and McElroy Service Parts. He had worked semi-retired for eight years at Bank of American South, where he was voted "Favorite Local Bank Teller" as it appeared in the Abilene Reporter-News on July 25, 1999.
He was a member of First Central Presbyterian Church where he had served as Deacon and Elder.
He is survived by his wife, Verna Wilson McElroy of Abilene; a daughter – Debbie McElroy Gregg of Abilene; a son – Tom McElroy, Jr., and his wife, Leah of Dallas; and a son – Steve McElroy of Los Angeles; and brothers – R. Pat McElroy of Waxahachie, and John E. McElroy of San Antonio. He is also survived by grandchildren – Amy Gregg Flippo of Abilene and Travis, Tanner, and Tarran McElroy of Dallas and two great grandchildren.
Graveside services will be 11 AM Tuesday in Waxahachie Cemetery with Rev. Victor Dindot officiating, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory. The family will receive friends from 6-8PM Sunday at the funeral home.
