Carol E. Cooke, 48, of Shawnee Ave., Columbia, died Friday morning at the University of Wisconsin Hospital in Madison, Wisc., following a two-year illness.

Born in Columbia, she was a daughter of Evelyn Bryant Arter of Columbia and the late Chester Arter.

She worked for the last 10 years in the data entry department of QVC Co., West Hempfield Township.

Baptized in the Catholic faith, she was a member of the Women of the Chickies Rock Lodge, Loyal Order of Moose, and the Auxiliary of the Red Rose Memorial Post 2435, Veterans of Foreign Wars, both in Columbia.

Surviving besides her mother are two daughters, Kimmi, wife of David Sawyer, and Jennie Howe, both of Columbia; four grandchildren; a sister, Linda, wife of Randall Becker of Lititz; and three brothers, Chester Arter of Manheim, Barry Arter of Lititz and Gerald Arter of Wrightsville.
