Tom was inducted into the U.S. Army in 1944 and served in WWII as combat infantryman in France and Germany. Infantryman replacement to Trailblazers 70th Division, 274th Infantry Regiment. He received an honorable discharge in 1946.
Tom attended Texas Tech where he was a journalism major. It was at Texas Tech that he met Darline Pickett. They married in 1950 in Clovis, NM. They were happily married for 62 years. Tom was employed by American Airlines for 35 years. Tom loved traveling, writing, cooking, playing the piano, listening to music, camping, gardening and he was in a continuous pursuit for knowledge. He was a loving husband, father, uncle, grandfather and great grandfather.
Tom was preceded in death by his wife Darline, his parents, his sister Pearl Greenhaw, and his brother Alvis Brown.
Tom is survived by his daughters Diana (Don) Burk and Jill (Johan) Williams, grandson Ryan (Tricia) Burk, granddaughter Christy Burk, great-grandson Bennett Burk, and brother Donald (Doris) Brown.
A visitation will be held at Smith Family Funeral Home in Haskell, TX at 12 noon on Saturday Oct 24. A graveside service will follow at Weinert Cemetery at 2pm under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes.
