Donna I. DeWeese, 92, of Hildreth, formerly of North Platte, passed away October 20, 2015 at the Golden Living Center in Franklin, NE.
Donna was the 3rd child born to Marion and Nettie Byington, at their home near Riverview, NE on July 21, 1923. Donna was raised on the home place and farm in Keya Paha County, NE. She attended school at Riverview School and High School at Rock County High in Bassett, NE.
In 1943, Donna married Max DeWeese of Bassett, at Yuma, Arizona where Max was stationed in the Army. She followed Max from camp to camp as he was in the Military Police units and they moved often. In fifteen months they were in six different states. At the last camp, and the war was nearly over when Max was sent overseas. When the war ended, they made their home in Omaha, NE where both sons were born, Lonnie Max and Benny Gene.
When the boys got to school age they moved back to Bassett, Nebraska and raised their sons. In 1969, Max and Donna moved to North Platte where they made their home. Donna worked at St. Mary’s Hospital for four years and eleven years at Great Plains Regional Medical Center.
Donna loved to quilt and make baby quilts, do sewing and hand work. She also loved her flowers.
Donna moved to Hildreth, NE in 2014 and resided with her son, Lon and wife, Beverly, until August of 2015 when she entered the Golden Living Center at Franklin.
She leaves to mourn her passing her sons, Lonnie M. (Beverly) DeWeese of Hildreth, NE and Benny G. (Brenda) DeWeese, of Irving, CA; grandchildren, Heidi (Russ) Harrison, Fullerton, CA; Troy (Nicole) DeWeese, Lake City, CA, Buddy (Martha) DeWeese, Axtell, NE; Laci McCall, Shelton, NE; Sheyenne (Keith) Harders, Wood River, NE; Shayne DeWeese, Pleasanton, NE, eight great grandchildren, Brennen, Cora, & Ethan Harrison, Madison DeWeese, Cory DeWeese, Chris and Greg DeWeese, Neala McCall; six great-great grandchildren; one brother, Gary Byington of Florida and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her Husband, Max; mother and father; sisters, Eunice Crotty and Miriam Davis; brother, Don Byington; brother-in-law, Clint Davis; grandson, Monte DeWeese; a baby granddaughter; and niece, Candy Byington.
Graveside services will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, October 23, 2015 at Ft. McPherson National Cemetery near Maxwell. Carpenter Memorial Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
