George A. Waters, for many years one of the most prominent citizens of Troy, has died after being ill for three weeks with typhoid fever. Mr. Waters was born 58 years ago, and was the son of Elisha and Eleadorah Waters.

He was associated with his father many years in the manufacture of paper boats under the firm name of E. Waters & Son, and as the only manufacturers of such boats in the world they become distinguished throughout this country and Europe. The boats were used by all of the prominent colleges in their annual races, and their superiority was clearly demonstrated. He was an amateur oarsman of prominence and his scientific knowledge was of wide extent.

He was interested in photography as an amateur, and invented an improved shutter appliance and other photographic devices of value. He was a man of fine physique, and was very fond of swimming. He was very successful in the instruction of this athletic pursuit.

He was also interested in aeronautics and had ascensions with some of the most celebrated aeronauts of the day. Among them were LaMountain and Mme. Carlotta Meyer. At the last ascension in Troy, at the Fourth of July celebration in 1901, Mr. Waters was an occupant of the car.

He married Emma J., daughter of J. R. Fonda, of Troy, in 1866. Her demise occurred seven years ago. He is survived by his son, Charles Vinton Waters, city editor of the Troy Times; a daughter, Miss Elizabeth Waters; his parents and a brother,

Clarence W. Waters, of Ridgefield Park, NJ. Mr. Waters was socially prominent, being a welcome member of the best circles of Troy and other cities. He was one of the organizers and for yeans was secretary of the Riverside club of Upper Troy. He was secretary of the Rensselaer County Agricultural society, which holds its annual fairs at West Sandlake. Mr. Waters was a thirty-second degree Mason. He was a member of Mount Zion lodge, F. and A. M., Apollo chapter, R. A. M., Apollo commandery, K. T., and the Masonic Veterans' association.
