Edward was the only son of Charles Hilton Blake and Laura Ann Kimball. He was found living with his grandmother, Mary Blake, in Sparta, WI in 1870 after his father went missing in Idaho where he had gone for the gold rush. His mother was apparently deceased by that time, but that has not been substantiated.

Charles married Anna McCarthy on March 23, 1880 in Sparta, WI and they were the parents of four children: Laura Belle (August 15, 1880-June 9, 1937); Frank Hilton (September 28, 1883-March 5, 1955); Harry Mitchell (February 5, 1886-January 25, 1951); and Mary Josephine (December 27, 1890-November 10, 1938).

Charles died at the age of 50. This is a record from the LaCrosse Public Library:

Charles Blake 00/00/1845 02/25/1895 Oak Grove Early Records PF aged 50 years

Another family historian has verified that 1845 is not the correct birth date as he was 2 years old on the 1860 census.
