Sarah was the first-born of Charles Hilton and Laura Kimball Blake. She was the first school teacher in Sparta, WI. In 1855, she married Ed Walrath in Sparta. Their children were Charles, Ada, Alvin and Mary Belle. See Alfred's memorial for dates of birth and death.

After 1874, the family moved to Chippewa Falls, where her husband was engaged in the life insurance and fur business. Sarah died in Sparta at the home of Catherine Fisk, her sister-in-law, where she had been living for some time. She was 52 years old and the cause of death was cancer. There is no tombstone.
