Norma Reeve Seerley, 83, died September 5, 2015 in Phoenix, AZ. Norma was born September 27, 1931 in Emporia, Kansas to Fred & Inez Reeve (both deceased).

Norma is survived by her spouse Robert W. Seerley, two sons: Donald Allen of Lexington, GA and Ronald Wayne of Athens, GA; a sister Ruth Ann Hopper of Sun City West, AZ, four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

She grew up in Emporia, Kansas and Corpus Christi, Texas, then moved to Indianapolis, Indiana where she met and married Robert Wayne Seerley in 1951.

Norma attended Earlham College and Purdue University for her undergraduate work. She earned her M.S. degree at South Dakota State University; then in 1971 obtained her PhD in sociology from the University of Georgia. Throughout this educational journey, she supported Bob's attaining his PhD, while instilling values in raising their two sons.

She utilized her education and professional experiences to become a top-notch educator and leader focused on helping others.

She held a teaching position at Gainesville College and later became Chairperson of the Social Sciences Division. She retired in 1991.

Norma participated in a wide range of church activities from organizing international education groups to constructing homes on mission trips. She also served on numerous committees (scholarship, elder, missions and administration).

Some of Norma's favorite pastimes were: flowers, animals, campfires, hiking, photography and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She had a vested interest in her grandchildren's education and tried to instill her love for life and the outdoors in each of them. She could light up a room and warm countless hearts with her million-dollar smile.

She was generous and compassionate and lived every day to the fullest. One of her fondest wishes was to make the world a kinder, better place. Her presence will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

A memorial service will be held on September 27 at 2:00 p.m. at Tuckston United Methodist Church in Athens, GA, where Norma lived the majority of her professional life.
