Hattie was the forth child of eight born to James Foster Davis and Sarah Jane Little on November 12, 1854 in Stewart County, Georgia. The family moved to Alabama about 1858. Hattie was about sixteen when they moved to Galveston, Texas in 1870. They were living in Bastrop County, Texas by 1873.

Hattie married Adam Caldwell Denson on December 16, 1878 in Bastrop County. She and Adam had nine children, but one child died at thirteen months old (Tommy Denson).

They moved to Milam County with her parents, and the Morgan family in 1883. According to Hattie's daughter Sadie Weathersbee, Hattie smoked a corn cob pipe.

Sadie also stated that Hattie was lying on her bed nursing twenty-one month old Grayce when she got a terrible pain in her chest. Son Samuel got on his horse and rode 4 miles to get a doctor. When he returned with the doctor, Hattie had already passed. Hattie died May 6, 1902 in Milam County near Buckholts.

Sadie also states that Hattie was buried at Bryant Station Cemetery in an unmarked grave. Sadie passed this burial info to daughter Wilma W Graham. Wilma included this info in her Denson Family Tree compiled in Feb 1988.
