John Abner Hodlin was a widely-known steeplejack who died in a 100-foot fall when a flag pole, which he was painting, broke. Mr. Hodlin sustained a broken neck and a crushed chest. He was still alive when his brother, Joseph Lewis Hodlin, who was working with him, arrived at his side. He was pronounced as dead upon arrival at the Kingston City Hospital. An autopsy was performed by Dr. W. M. Conner, coroner, who pronounced death due to a crushed chest and consequent severe injury of both lungs and to a broken neck.
