Thomas Oscar Bumgarner Jr.,, 71, of Twenty-first Street, SE, died June 8. 1993, at Frye Regional Medical Center following a period of declining health.


Born April23, 1922, in Alexander County, he was a son of the late Thomas O. and Maudie Steelwell Bumgarner.


An Army veteran of World War II, he was a self-employed home builder. He was a member of the American Legion Post 48 and the Disabled American Veterans.


Survivors include his wife, Peggy Starr Bumgarner, and two brothers, Frank Bumgarner of Glendale, Ore., and John C. Bumgarner of Baltimore, Md.


The. funeral will be conducted by the Rev. Samuel Harris at 3:30 p.m. Thursday in the Bass-Smith Funeral Home chapel.


Burial will be in Catawba Memorial Park, with military rites by the American Legion Post 48.


Bass-Smith Funeral Home is serving the family.
