Thomas was a Quaker minister for 25 years. Rev. Hollingsworth regularly visited New Jersey, Maryland and parts of Virginia. His son Amor established the Hollingsworth & Whitney Paper Company which is now a part of the Scott Paper Company. Rev. Hollingsworth died while heading for Carolina on a ministering trip in 1753. He took ill shortly after departing and was taken care of in Pipe Creek, Maryland (previously Frederick County). From his Quaker eulogy, he was "greatly missed in the meeting to which he belonged, as well as in his family, and the neighborhood where he dwelt."

[Burial information is from Jean Leeper's research. She wrote that Thomas was buried at "William Farquard's Burying Place, Pipe Creek, Md." which is the Friend's Burial Ground. Terri Stafford's Rootsweb tree provided the eulogy quote and the information regarding his son's paper company.]
