Philip was first married to Lucy Edwards on May 8, 1873, in Parke County, Indiana. I believe that Lucy was the daughter of Willis R. Edwards and his wife, Elizabeth.

Philip and Lucy sometimes went by their middle names of Samuel and Ellen. Philip and Lucy were in the 1880 for Jackson, Poweshiek County, Iowa. At that time, Lucy was 25-years-old and was living with Philip and their children Clayton A., age 6; Carton W., age 4; James B., age 2; and Courtiuos, age 5 months. Also living in the household was Philip's brother, William H. Musgrove, age 25. (Philip's name was spelled Phillip in both the marriage record to Lucy and the 1880 Census.) The last that I could find of Lucy was in 1885 when she was living with her family in the March 1, 1885, Census for Medicine, Rooks County, Kansas. They were listed as Samuel and Ellen Musgrove in that census. I do not know if Lucy Ellen died in Kansas or after the family returned to Iowa.

Philip was remarried on October 10, 1893, in Ottumwa, to Minnie McFarling Smith. (Minnie's name was spelled McFarland in the marriage record to Philip. Minnie was first married to C.M. or C.H. Smith on November 13, 1888, in Bloomfield, Iowa, and her maiden name was spelled correctly as McFarling on that marriage record.) After Philip's death, Minnie married John H. McFarland on November 25, 1907, in Kirksville, Missouri.
