An obituary for Willis was published in the "Ottumwa Courier," on March 2, 1965. He died at Jefferson Square Manor in Ottumwa following a long illness.

Willis had been an employee of the former Ottumwa Steam Laundry for many years. He was born near Barnes City, the son of Phillip S. and Lucy E. Edwards Musgrove. He had lived in Ottumwa for 75 years. He was a member of the First Church of the Open Bible.

His marriage to Bessie May Morgan took place August 25, 1901 in Ottumwa. Survivors were his wife, Bessie, two granddaughters, Mrs. Carole A. Olson of Ottumwa and Mrs. Bette Jo Hall of Des Moines; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Ada Adkins of New Sharon; a half sister, Mrs. Grace McCombs of Waterloo, and a stepsister, Mrs. Carrie Dawson of Marshalltown.

He was preceded in death by one son, Lawrence, on June 17, 1949, and a daughter, Lucy Ann Christianson on December 3, 1960. Also preceding him in death were four brothers, three sisters, and three half brothers.
