Margaret Rosetta "Etta" (O'Bryant) Garrett was born on October 2, 1864 in Pickens, South Carolina, the daughter of James Carr O'Bryant (1831–1893) and Hannah Adeline (Alexander) O'Bryant (1828–1927).

She was married abut 1878 to John Thomas Garrett (1862–1899), and he was the son of Thomas Perry Garrett (1840–1907) and Elizabeth "Bessie" (Stewart) Garrett (1840–1915). [NOTE: Although there is a Death Certificate for John's mother Elizabeth in Anderson County, South Carolina, the lines for the date and place of burial are blank.]

Living on Rural Route 2 out of Nashville, Tennessee, Etta was 90 years old and a widow when she died of broncho pneumonia on June 16, 1955 at Nashville's Mid-State Baptist Hospital. Burial was two days later in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Nashville.
