She was married abut 1878 to John Thomas Garrett (1862–1899), and he was the son of Thomas Perry Garrett (1840–1907) and Elizabeth "Bessie" (Stewart) Garrett (1840–1915). Living on Rural Route 2 out of Nashville, Tennessee, Etta was 90 years old and a widow when she died of broncho pneumonia on June 16, 1955 at Nashville's Mid-State Baptist Hospital. Burial was two days later in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Nashville.
