Mary Ruth Baker, age 86 of Woodville, Alabama, passed away on Wednesday, September 30, 2015 at her residence after a long illness. She was born on September 24, 1929 in Estill Fork, Alabama to the late John D. and Rose M. Henshaw Swearengin. A devoted wife and mother, she was a member of the Paint Rock Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by husband, John Benjamin Baker; brothers, James B. Swearengin, John Albert Swearengin, and Robert Clyde Swearengin; and sister, Ila Jewel Clark. She is survived by son, Gerald Dwight Baker Sr of Woodville, AL; daughter, Brenda S. (Michael) Foster of Clay, MI; sister, Peggy (Johnny) Gifford of Woodville, AL; grandchildren, Gerald (Melissa) Baker Jr of Gary, IN, John Wayne (Alicia) Baker of Woodville, AL, Amy B. (William) Deitch Jr of Crete, IL; and Brandon M. Foster of Milford, MI; and eight great-grandchildren. Visitation will be Friday from 3-8 PM at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, October 3, 2015 at 1:00 PM in the Moore-Cortner Chapel with Pastor Charles King officiating. Interment will follow at Maxwell Cemetery.
