John Albert Swearengin went home to be with our Lord on Sunday, July 28, 2013. John was the loving husband to Geneva for 66 years, she preceded him into heaven in 2007. He was born in Swaim, Alabama to his parents, Rosa and John. After serving 4 years in World War II as an anti-aircraft gunner, he relocated to Harvey, Illinois. He worked at Acme Steel and was Vice President of their union in Riverdale, Illinois. He retired to Tavares, Florida. John is survived by his daughters, Judy Jellema and Sharon Pavey, son-in-law David Pavey. He is the grandfather of Mark (Karen), Kim (Steve), Dale (Lisa), Aaron (Denise), David (Michelle), Shari (Lanny), and Kevin (Cristy). He is Great Goompa to Dylan, Cheyanne, Johnny, Olivia, Emma, Jonah, Ben, Owen, Wyatt, Sophia, Trevor, Ryan, Jordon, Payton, Jackson, Addison, and a 16th great grandchild due in December. John was one of six children and is survived by two sisters, Ruth Baker and Peggy (Johnny) Gifford of Woodville, Alabama. He is survived by 10 of 11 nieces and nephews. John was loved dearly by all his family and friends. We look forward to the day when we will meet him again in the glories of Heaven.
