Born in Haywood County, NC to the late Paul Mehaffey and Minnie Sutton Mehaffey, he moved to Upper Deerfield Twp. as a small child with his family from North Carolina. Gilmer had been a farmer all of his working life and had owned and operated Long Lane Nursery in Upper Deerfield Twp. He was a member of Deerfield United Methodist Church, a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association and an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed the outdoors at his property in McKean County, PA.
Surviving are his six children, Cindy Sooy of Fairton, Gilmer L. Mehaffey, Jr. of Fairton, Addison Mehaffey of Fairton, twins, Tracey Mehaffey of Millville and Robinson Mehaffey of Alloway Twp. and Rocky Mehaffey of Millville; eight grandchildren including his granddaughter Rebecca Mehaffey who was his caregiver and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 11 brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be held at the PADGETT FUNERAL HOME, 1107 State Highway 77, Upper Deerfield Twp. on Wednesday, September 23rd at 11 AM. Interment will take place at Deerfield Methodist Cemetery. A visitation will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday evening, September 22nd from 6 PM to 8 PM and again on Wednesday morning from 10 AM to 11 AM prior to the services.
