Verna Raymond, 88, of Broken Bow died Tuesday, Feb. 2, 1999, at Jennie Melham Memorial Medical Center in Broken Bow.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow. The Rev. Jim Stark will officiate. Burial will be in the Custer Center Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the mortuary.

Mrs. Raymond was born on Oct. 2, 1910, at Adams to Andrew L. and Emma (McMullen) Andersen. She attended a rural school near Adams and Grand Island Business School. She moved to Broken Bow in 1936.

She married George Raymond on Aug. 31, 1940. They farmed south of Merna. He died on April 6, 1966.

She moved to Broken Bow in 1968 and worked at Becton Dickinson. She later worked as a cook at the Merna School and then as a dispatcher for the Broken Bow Police Department. She retired in 1975.

She was a member of the Methodist Church, Eastern Star, Custer Center Grange and Jennie Melham Memorial Medical Center Auxiliary.

She enjoyed playing bridge and participated in the hospital bridge club marathon. She also enjoyed crocheting and baking rolls.

Survivors include one son, Tom Raymond of Japan; one daughter, Linda (Mrs. Dean) Petricek of Elkhorn; three grandchildren; one brother, Curtis Andersen of Broken Bow; and three sisters, Lois Doggett of Burwell, Letha Brown of North Platte and Carol Lewis of Grand Island.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one stepson, Floyd; two stepdaughters, Elva and Doris; one brother, Chris; and two sisters, Opal and an infant sister, Oma.
