Jessie came to Texas as an older teen or young adult and our first Texas record of him is his marriage to Mary Frances Wood September 14, 1894. The first census that their names appeared in was the 1900 Census.
Jessie was a farmer and raised cotton, corn and all of the things necessary to provide for his family. Jessie and Mary had 4 children. Jessie was also responsible for maintaining a section of the road near where they lived for the county as was discovered through searching old records. They hauled water from Alvarado to provide them with fresh drinking water and their lighting was with kerosene lamps. Their house was large enough that the grandkids could come and have their own bed to sleep in and not have to sleep on the floor. That was a treat.
