The funeral services of Mrs. Sarah Norton Emerson, widow of Charles F. Emerson, were held at the old home yesterday afternoon. A relative, Rev. Will Norton of Chicago, had charge of the services and he was assisted by Rev. Otjen, pastor of the M.E. church, of which the decedent was a member. The floral offerings were beautiful. Interment was in Riverview cemetery. Friday evening the remains arrived here from Ottawa, where she died at the home of her only daughter, Mrs. Will Leslie, at the close of a brief illness. Mrs. Emerson was born in Ohio and came to Byron when a young girl with her father's family, and in 1850 she was married at the old Sinnissippi hotel by the late E.F. Dutcher of this city. A few years later the new home was built on South fifth street, which is one of the oldest houses in this place and is now occupied by her two sons, Frank and Henry. Mrs. Emerson lived to be nearly 74 years of age and lived a very active life, surrounded by a large circle of friends and relatives until about 10 years ago when she left the old home to live with her daughter. Besides the two sons and one daughter, she leaves a brother and sister, Mrs. Will Ray, both of whom live in Chicago, and one sister who resides in California.
