NEWPORT NEWS - Mavis Baldwin Peele Dail went to be with her Lord on Saturday, March 5, 2005.

She is survived by (names of the living have been omitted per Find A Grave rules). The memory of her love will be with them forever.

Mavis was married to Hyatt L. Melton for 18 years and divorced in 1963. He has remained one of her closest friends and mentors. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Heber Peele and Johnnie Dail.

She had 11 brothers and sisters. The deceased siblings are C.D., Lawrence, Clyde, Charles and Earl Baldwin, and Vera Mae Lee. Her surviving siblings are (names of the living have been omitted per Find A Grave rules). She had 30 nieces and nephews. She is also survived by (names of the living have been omitted per Find A Grave rules). She taught her children to love, support and appreciate each other throughout their lives.

Family was second only to Jesus. She worked as a checker for Colonial Stores for 28 years. During that time she was 'Checker of the Year.' This honor was given to her because of the love and genuine concern that she showed to all she served. She also retired from Newport News Fashions. Her children, Wayne and Beverly, will miss her tremendously. She was and will always be a treasure in their lives. They want to especially thank Pastor Danny Owens and her Sunday School Class for ministering to her and for their continued love, support, and friendship. They would also like to thank Drs. Llano, Banks, and Brush and the nurses at Sentara Leigh Hospital for their consistent efforts to heal her and for the compassion shown to the family. There has never been, nor will there ever be, a more beloved friend and mother.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, March 7, at Peninsula Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Tuesday at Westhampton Baptist Church with interment to follow in Parklawn Memorial Park.
