SHELBY — Mr. Ernest Glenn Baldwin, died Sunday, July 3, 2005, at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte.

Born Jan. 22, 1935, in Rutherford County, he was a son of the late Claude Duckery and Grace Nance Baldwin. He was a Korean era veteran and served as a corporal in the U. S. Combat Engineers of the Army's 101st Airborne Division. He was the owner of Baldwin Metals and Baldwin Rental Properties and retired from the City of Shelby. He was a charter member of Crestview Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, C.D. Jr., Charles, Earl, Clyde and Lawrence Baldwin, and two sisters, Mavis Dail and Vera Lee.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Virginia Rollins Baldwin of the home; a daughter, Renda Baldwin Turnbill and husband, Tony Alden Turnbill, of Shelby; a son, Ernie Baldwin of Boiling Springs; two grandsons, Justin and Jacob Turnbill of Shelby; two sisters, Magonia Prevette and husband, Jim, of Winston-Salem and Dorothy Huffstetler and husband, Clyde, of Kings Mountain; two brothers, Bobby Baldwin and wife, Evelyn, of Chesapeake, Va., and Johnny Baldwin and wife, Barbara, of Virginia Beach, Va.; many nieces and nephews and two most faithful friends, Charles Petty of Boiling Springs and Shelby Small of New York.

The immediate family held a committal service at Cleveland Memorial Park on Monday, with the Rev. Delbridge Narron officiating. A memorial service will be Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at Crestview Baptist Church, with the Revs. Stan Webb, Edward Lee and Lou Gardner officiating.

Memorials may be made to Crestview Baptist Church, 1090 Old Boiling Springs Road, Shelby, NC 28152.
