Capt. Godfrey Pope (-1846) was publisher/editor of The Louisville Sun and a captain of Co. E, 1st Regiment, Ky. Infantry (Louisville Legion) but died en route to the Mexican War. He married in 1840, Nancy Minor (1824-98), daughter of Spence (1788-1857) and Mary Guthrie Minor (1796-1834), of Nelson County, Ky., by whom he had three daughters, Mary (d.age14), Sarah (d.inf.), and Ann Fredericka Pope (1844-1928).

Ann Fredericka Pope (1844-1928) lived in Louisville and Waynesville, N.C. She married in 1866, Col. James William Bowles (1837-1921), son of Joshua Bethel (1795-1873), president of the Bank of Louisville, and Grace Shreve Bowles (1806-67), of Louisville. He commanded the famous 2nd Ky. Cavalry in John Hunt Morgan's brigade. Their eight children were Joshua Bethel, II (1867-1918) who married Margaret Nicholls (1869-1950), of Nelson County, Ky.; Nancy Minor (1869-99); Grace Shreve (1871-1938)(dsp); Mary Guthrie (1873-74); Julia Pope (1875-1957)(dsp); Frederick Pope (1879-1969) who married Isabel Williams (1885-1971); Octavius Shreve (1881-96); and Mary Caperton Bowles (1884-).

Nancy Minor Bowles (1869-99) married in 1893, Dr. William Figures Lewis (1866-1944), son of Dr. Richard Henry (1832-1917) and Eleanor Mildred Betts Lewis (1844-1915), of Virginia. He was a surgeon and colonel in the U.S. Army. She died early leaving an infant daughter, Frederika Pope Lewis (1899-1967), who married in 1924, Joseph Crawford Rivers (1894-). Their children were Frederika (1927-2004); and accountant James Lewis Rivers (1929-2013)(Mars Hill c1950), of Asheville, N.C. The latter married Eleanor Garrison (1930-2017), and two daughters were Leslie who married Rick Elliott and had Madison and Charlotte Elliott, of North Myrtle Beach, S.C.; and Julia Rivers who married Tom Brotherton and had Sarah and Michelle Brotherton, of Charlotte, N.C. Frederika Rivers (1927-2004) lived in Martinsville, Va. and married Richard Neal Hood (1923-2007). Four children were Julia Leigh, Anna who married a Stillman, Ellen who married a Rowe, and Neal Hood.
